Brazilian jiu-jitsu
Brazilian Jiujitsu is a martial art focused on close combat where your goal is to submit your opponent.
Training jiujitsu you will learn take downs, chokes, grips, control positions and joint locks.
With this knowledge someone smaller and lighter is able to defend himself against a bigger opponent without the use of strength, but by using the techniques and abilities learnt.
By training jiujitsu you will increase your muscular strength, cardiovascular resistance, flexibility, but without a doubt the muscle that you will workout the most is your brain.
Striking | Muy Thai | Boxing
Striking (Boxing/Muay Thai)
In our striking class we offer the best of boxing and muay thai or thai boxing. These two martial arts are the most efficient to learn how to defend yourself while standing up as it’s been proven in mixed martial arts.
Boxing
You will learn every punch that you can use, you will learn different ways to protect yourself from those same punches. You will learn how to block and dodge punches. You will also learn how to properly move to always stay balanced and out of unnecessary danger.
Muay Thai
Also known as the art of 8 limbs, you will use punches, kicks, knees and elbows. You will learn how to use and defend against them. This is an excellent training that will challenge you both physically and mentally.
Functional Training
Our Functional Training classes are our version of strength and conditioning that is based on 20 plus years of experience in high performance training.
We look to improve our members physical abilities so they can enjoy a better quality of life, we see our training as an investment in longevity.
We use different tools in our system like Olympic barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, medicine balls, slam balls, ropes, etc. Its important for us that our members learn how to control their own body so we use gymnastic movements to achieve that goal.
Improving our members cardiovascular capacity is very important and we also make an important point on improving coordination because we think that it doesn´t matter how strong you are if you can´t move in an efficient manner.
In Quilombo Sayulita you will receive a well-rounded training that will help you invest in a better quality of life for old age.

Personal Growth
“Today’s world is flooded with participation trophies. In an attempt to promote equality we have robbed our youth of the most growth-inducing aspect of competition, failing. If you want to be resurrected, you have to first be crucified. Everybody wants to be reborn, but no one is willing to die. Losing, in the context of whatever arena it may be, is a microcosmic death. When we learn from our failures and grow because of them, we are reborn.”
― Chris Matakas, The Tao of Jiu Jitsu
Brotherhood
To commit to a common goal above individual selfish needs.
To be tolerant and treat people as an extension of your family.
Integrity
To think long term and pave the way for future generations.
To honor our predessors and traditions.
Development
To pass to others the benefits of fitness.
To promote and expand the art of movement.
“I loved going to this gym during my 2-week vacation. The classes were really hard and well thought through, the instructors were AWESOME, great equipment and super reasonable prices. Quilombo really makes me want to live here so I can stay a part of the community! I will definitely come back to class when I return. Christian was especially kind and helpful (and loves kettle bells like I do). Highly recommend!”
“Gracias quilombo… If you need to train some real bjj (Brazilian jiu jitsu) there’s no better place than quilombo.Una banda de amigos que trabaja duro.. A crew of guys that work hard to improve their skills..friendly.. Christian and others profs are really competent!
“I visit the area frequently and I am proud to call Quilombo my home away from home. the crew is awesome and the vibe is on point for training on vacation. You should definately train here when you come to Sayulita”
